I am currently Licensed to practice independently for therapy services in the states of Iowa, Missouri, Minnesota, Arkansas, Colorado. I have pending licensing in Illinois. However, you may not want therapy but need expert coaching and advice on managing your relationship with a high-conflict co-parent, navigating parenting a teenager, dealing with blended family issues, or understanding how to reconnect with your estranged child. I provide services that are not therapy, and called “coaching” for private rates. I also conduct group educational classes and support forums from time to time.

What is the difference between therapy vs coaching:

Therapy focuses on diagnosing and treatment of mental health and emotional healing.

Coaching may have a therapeutic impact, but is not therapy and focuses on actions and advice versus feelings.

For example, someone who is dealing with the stress of divorce may seek therapy to process the deep personal emotions, trauma history, or internalized beliefs they have about themselves.

In a coaching situation the focus on divorce issues would be guiding someone through cause and effect, finding resources and solutions in their local community, developing a parenting plan, and practicing how to handle conversations or communications with a co-parent. Coaching would not delve in to the deep emotional wounds and processing this for personal meaning, its more advice seeking and reflecting. Coaching is confidential similar to therapy.

Insurance typically covers therapy services due to the medical benefits and outcomes with these services. HSA and FSA can cover copays or deductibles.

Coaching is private pay only. No clinical license is required, but is an added benefit for expertise. You can access coaching without the Coach being licensed in your state unlike therapy. Coaching sessions are purchased on a single use consultation session, or are purchased in a non-refundable package for more detailed issues.

Coaching is not billable to insurance as we do not create a treatment plan, diagnose, or treat mental health conditions. Coaching also will not satisfy court orders for therapy. Coaching is not reported as a treatment service and is completely confidential.
